Beautiful Day

Appears we are having a typical Manitoba spring, sun, rain, and snow!!  I know we are all looking for warmer days, until then I hope this sunny little project will brighten your day!

I visited the store last weekend for the Pop Up Market, WOW what a day!!!  The market was full of people and the vendors were all so wonderful!

I managed to pick up some fun vintage items, how could I resist?!

Of course I also picked up more new Tim Holtz goodies…..oh my they are all so gorgeous!  Which I couldn’t stop from putting these new goodies to use right away!!

The base of this project is a block of wood that I ‘borrowed’ from my husbands stash.  I’m not the only hoarder in the house, he has a thing for leftover bits of wood.   But who am I to complain when I can transform them into fun little projects!

I started by covering the block with some Tim Holt paper.  Next using a variety of green and blue Distress Inks I inked up a piece of white cardstock before cutting it with the Tim Holtz Organic die.

I knew the die was very fine once cut so inking my paper first was the perfect solution!

To add the die cut piece to my block I used matte medium over the front then laid the die piece over top.  Once it was set I cut the extra off, much easier method when working with such a fine cut piece.  For extra texture I added a bit of moss at the bottom as well.

Next I cut these adorable toad stools using Tim Holtz Funky Foliage from white cardstock and coloured them using Distress Ink in different shades of brown.  My scene needed some flowers of course which were also cut from the Funky Foliage die set using green cardstock and some pink pattern paper.

The finishing touch is the fairy girl sitting so pretty in this secret garden!  Using Tim Holtz Paper Dolls and adding a pair of his new Transparent Wings to create the fairy.  If you have a love for butterflies & fairies you HAVE to get these wings, they are stunning!!!

I have lots more new Tim goodies waiting for me to use….stay tuned I’m sure you’ll be seeing many more projects coming soon using them!!

Industrial Canvas

We all get excited bringing home new supplies to play with and this weeks project features two new Tim Holtz dies that I added to my collection!

When I saw Tim’s new die release I immediately knew I HAD to have the new Voltage Die, it’s so perfectly industrial. which I love!

I think it also appeases my love of electronics, it was one of my favorite classes in school!

His new Faceted Heart peaked my interest right away too, and as I saw how people were using it I knew that it would be another welcome addition to my hoards of dies!  Yes I said hoards……..if only you knew! LOL

I brougtht the two new dies together to create this industrial 5×5 canvas.  I started by adding texture to the background with Ranger Texture paste and a circuit board stencil, then covered it with black gesso.  The Voltage die I cut from chipboard and gave it a coat of black gesso as well.

To color the background I pulled out some Tim Holtz Distress Paint in Black Soot, Broken China and Antiqued Bronze.  The dial of the Voltage die was covered in Tarnished Brass Distress Paint, then sanded to give it a weathered look allowing some of the black to show through.

I wanted the Voltage die to be raised, and look like I had salvaged it from some kind of electronic device, so I raided my husbands hardware stash for bolts and washers to give the paper straws a good base.

The gears are of course from Love Is In The Details custom laser cut chipboard, which I painted with a mix of Distress Paint and Finnabair Rust Paste.

I cut the small Faceted Heart from rusty colored cardstock and inked each of the folds using Pinecone ink.  I actually made two and glued them together for a full heart.  To finish it off I added a screw head brad, and chain so it can hang from the canvas!

The Faceted heart is very easy to put together, and gets easier once you’ve made a couple!  I am already planning on using the big one soon!

Now off you go taking advantage of the day to put those new supplies to use!!!
