Just Because…

Hi friends!  I’m back today with some cards to share with you.  I’ve been itching to use the Stamping Bella “Just Because” stamp set, and today I’m sharing 4 different ways to color the same stamp.

The first card I want to share, is stamped on Strathmore Bristol Smooth cardstock and colored with Zig Real Brush markers.  They are water-based, and you can very easily blend the colors by either coloring with a darker colored marker and then dragging the color with a lighter colored marker until the tint runs out, OR laying down a dark color with the marker and then using a wet brush to blend the color out to lighter at the edges as I did in the photo below.

Once the image was colored and dry, I went over the blue ribbon with a Wink of Stella marker to give it a very subtle glitter/sheen.  Hard to photograph, but cool in real life.

Here is the finished card.  I started by machine stitching lines onto the grey cardstock and layering it with a thin strip of floral patterned paper and then letting some of the white card base edge show.  Then I fussy cut the image out and adhered it on the stitched cardstock and finished it off with a foam mounted sentiment strip and some dew drop gems.

This next card was stamped on Neenah Solar White cardstock (110 pound) and colored with Copic markers.

The magic in this way of coloring is also in the blendability of the colors.  The best results come from starting with a dark color, then adding a medium shade and finishing with a light color.  For small areas like the leaves you can get away with just the dark and the light, and still get a nice color gradation.

The cool thing about the sentiment on this card is that the original stamp is a single line of text, but for the purposes of fitting it in on this card, I did some stamp surgery and cut each word from the other so I could line it up vertically like you see.  I cut the colored image out using an oval stitched die and then finished the card with some Tonic Studio Nuvo drops.

The next two cards are stamped on watercolor paper, but the first is stamped with Ranger Distress Ink in Antique Linen and the second is stamped in black with Versafine Onyx black ink.

The reason for stamping the image in Antique Linen (a really pale shade of ink that dissolves into the ink that is painted over it) is so that I could try the “no-line” style of coloring where you let the highlights and shadows of color define the image edges, rather than the lines.  It’s tricky.  I have a lot to learn.  I cut the image out, using a tag die and added a Distress Ink-dyed seam binding ribbon tied to the top.

But I don’t hate the black outlines of a stamped image.  So that’s how I colored this last card.  I stayed very loose and patchy with the color of the background, water and jar.  Then I blended some red and purple for the blooms.  I cut the image with a square stitched die and mounted it on the card front with foam tape.  The “just because” sentiment is included in the Stamping Bella Mason Jar stamp set.  And that little enamel pink heart by the sentiment?  That’s also Tonic Studios Nuvo drops.  It’s created by drawing a “V” with the tip of the bottle and letting it settle out into a heart shape.

I think it makes a favorite rubber stamp even more favorite when you can get a few different looks from the same stamp.

Thanks for stopping by today!  We’ll see you again on Sunday!

All sewn up

Every Christmas my sewing machine comes out as I feel the need to sew up some kind of Christmas package.  This year I chose to simply use sheets of patterned paper, tags, die cuts and stickers.

dec-5-1

I combined it all together with a few stitches,

some adhesive and baker’s twine … and voila, I was able to create some pretty cute little gifts.

lindt

Tucked inside … Lindt chocolates … who doesn’t love Lindt?

dec-5-3

Perfect for a little gift, to tuck inside a stocking … or simple to say thank you …

dec-5-4

or my personal favorite - for a just because gift.  Some more new paper has just come in, so I think I may have to sew up a few more.

Thanks for dropping in today!  Cheers!
