New Classes Announcement!

Hey friends, hi!

I’ve got some news to share with you today!  If you follow Love is in the Details on Facebook or Instagram, then you likely already know that I’ll be heading up to Canada soon, and bringing with me 3 new classes that I’ll be teaching in early July!  The classes will be held over 2 consecutive days so that if you are coming from a distance and want to take in all three, you’ll be able to do so conveniently.  Here is an outline of each of the classes.

Hollyhocks and more!

Cards, gift card holders and a watercolor painting!  In this class we’ll use the hollyhock die from Impression Obsession to create a card and a framed piece of art. We will also do some stamping and coloring to create two gift card holders.  The stamps I’ll be sharing with you are from Jane’s Doodles.  Jane is Croatian; she grew up in Canada, lives now in Croatia and I’m on her design team.  She’s a sweetheart, and a talented artist whose products Lori will so be carrying in the store and you’ll be able to purchase her stamps at 20% off when you sign up for the class!   Finally, I will teach you a partial embossing technique to create another card with die cut flowers and leaves.  Besides the usual finished projects you’ll take home, your class fees will also give you your own die set to keep, as well as a frame for your art!

Summer Fun and Beach Holidays!

The next class is a mini album!  I’ll be showing you a simple but unique way to cut and fold 12″x12″ papers to create a multi-layered and edged album and we will be embellishing it with Elizabeth Craft Designs Peel Off stickers that I will be teaching you how to color and blend.  The colors of the album are bright primary and secondary colors because the theme will be your choice of Summer Fun or Beach Vacation. Perfect colors for those themes, right??  Once again, there will be a ton of product that is yours to keep besides the finished project!

Watercolor Painted Inspiration Book!

This is a class that is inspired by my own recent attending of a class that relit my creative fire and I hope it will do the same for everyone who takes this class!  I’ve altered the project to give it my own style, which I will be sharing with you.  I’ll be demonstrating each of 15 watercolor elements, providing all the tools needed to duplicate the same, (including all the supplies to take home after the class is finished) and encouraging each student to discover their artist within!  This will be a 6 hour class with a break for lunch and at the end you’ll have a handmade journal perfect for inspiring quotes, lists of gratitudes, or whatever you like!  We will make embellishments for the book and learn some basic Zentangle and lettering skills.

I’m really excited to be bringing these classes to the Love is in the Details community and I’m hard at work right now, prepping for July 6 and 7! You can click directly to the class page from hereI hope to see you there!

Always Remember

It’s me again…Natalja.

I asked Norine if we could switch a blogging day, so I’ll be here today and Sunday, and she’ll be here for three blogs after that. I apologize for my crazy amount of run on sentences lately, I think it might be time for some schooling again (insert a great dose of sarcasm..I haven’t missed writing essays yet).

I hope you’ve had a good start to your week! Maybe I can make it even just a tad bit brighter with my springy lay out….they say it’s supposed to warm up in these corners of the North Pole!

There’s something about an 8.5″x 11″ layout that I can’t quite put my finger on…I think this may actually be my first layout in this size. It’s fun to do layouts on smaller sizes of paper and they’re also easier to fill, especially if you’re only using one photo.

As you may have noticed, I love to layer embellishments, even chipboard. Maybe it’s the flowers, but something just calls out to create a little ‘arrangement’. I used both stickers and chipboard from Crate Paper’s ‘Chasing Dreams’ by Maggie Holmes to create the corner flower detail.

As I worked on this layout, using a photo that came from some darker days in my life, I thought about the person who I have become, what I’ve learned and what I would say to the younger, much less secure, extremely self-critical (more like self-hating) person that I was during that time. I absolutely love the “Collected” paper from the ‘Chasing Dreams’ line as it is filled with such encouraging and inspiring words. At first I thought I might type out a little letter on my typewriter but then found these pink slips of papers were absolutely perfect and much more than enough.

Always remember,

(let everything be) from the heart,

leave a little magic wherever you go,

dreams are for chasing,

(you are able to) inspire someone today,

Have courage (to be you),

and be kind (to yourself).

To someone who has always loved pouring into other people and watching them flourish, there comes a time when you have to realize, that you can not give what you don’t have. When I take better care of myself, I become more secure and confident and with that am also better able to help those around me. I know this goes for a lot of you too. I hope you don’t mind me adding personal stories to my little art projects, but perhaps without stories, there would be no art.

Back to the project details though (as in embellishments), I’m guessing you’ll forever see even the tiniest bit of nuvo on my projects. Perhaps my next challenge should be to not use nuvo on my next project! But they really are that good, not kidding.

I think water colour seriously makes the world a better place. I love how a few strokes here and there, of Prima watercolour, add so much colour and character.

And that’s a wrap! Have a good rest of your week!

Always remember:

leave a little magic wherever you go,

your dreams are for chasing,

you can inspire someone today,

have courage

and be kind to yourself <3
