Star Trek Stamps

This past week I’ve been focusing on making pretty things that make me happy.

Whatever I liked I went with…whether it was a paper line, a colour scheme, or my own handwriting.

……………………………………………………………………………….

This card got sent to my best friend in Thunder Bay to celebrate her university graduation with her Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of English Arts. Right?! I am so unbelievably proud of her so I wanted to make her an extra special card.

I used the Maggie Holmes Chasing Dreams collection along with a LOT of layering. Isn’t that book chipboard piece brilliant? And that gold glitter dot acetate?

Honestly, I can’t believe some of my cards fit in envelopes with all of the layers I put on.

Plus, how hilarious are those Star Trek postage stamps??? Perfect for happy mail.

Next…

I’ve also been loving incorporating my own version of mixed media into my scrapbooking lately.

I usually start my layouts as “art journaling” pages and then they morph into scrapbook layouts somehow. I like that though because then I get therapy AND a scrapbook page out of it.

The background is mint acrylic paint, modeling paste + stencil, white heavy body acrylic paint, pink acrylic paint, and turquoise spray ink.

The title I wrote out freehand with my Versamark embossing brush marker, and then heat embossed with Ranger superfine black embossing powder. Fussy cutting the words wasn’t my fave but I love how the title turned out so it was worth the 2 minutes of suffering.

I also added a few diecut shapes from the Crate Paper Oasis collection which went well with the wedding photo of us looking at succulents in the Botanical Conservatory.

Aren’t those little pink dimensional dots lovely? They’re one of the new Nuvo Jewel drops (rose water). They’re tinted, translucent, dimensional, and perfect for cards & layouts.

This layout is on display in the store if you’d like a closer look. Feel free to ask how I did something so you can try it yourself!

Happy Sunday, all!

Love Language

Sometimes I see a scrapbooking line for the first time and think, “No way can I use that”. SOMETIMES. My style is so specific that I usually shy away from any paper lines that have a vintage or busy feel…like when I saw the new Prima Wild & Free line.

I was wrong. I’ll admit it.

I know it was the rose gold that got me. Hey, fellow rose gold lovers.

Here’s a sneak peek of the line:

Swoon. That rose gold foil speaks to my soul.

And this paper? I knew I wanted to use it for cards because all of the little pieces are so pretty. Seriously, pictures don’t do this stuff justice…it is so glimmery and stunning in person.

Before I show you the cards I made (7 with one sheet of paper!), take a look at the layout I made documenting one of my wedding pictures.

I made a cut file on my Silhouette using the words “I love you” in various languages then cut it out of kraft cardstock. I popped it up with foam squares then layered it over multiple squares of paper to create a patchwork effect.

I tried to make the map paper the most prominent to go along with the “love languages” theme.

Once I had my cardstock cut this page came together really quickly. I added some vintage goodies (seam binding, lace, etc.) as well as some small embellishments that went with the colour scheme and then added some ink splatter and rose gold sequins. (Thank you, Prima!)

Now, here are the seven cards I made. Seven of ‘em! Yup…me, the person who NEVER makes cards, made seven cards in one sitting.

I only used one paper (the one pictured at the start of this post), a few simple embellishments, some scrap paper from my stash, and sewing.

Since the words on the paper were primarily love themed I made all anniversary cards. You could make other card themes but I just decided to go the easy route and pick anniversary.

As I made the cards I tried to go quickly and not overthink it. This made it easier to layer and finish.

It’s a shame that the rose gold foil shows up red in the pictures…it’s so stunning IRL.

If you’re in need of any anniversary cards these ones will be available in the store this week. While you’re at the store make sure you check out this line in person. The flowers are especially gorgeous.

Thanks for stopping by today!
