Star Trek Stamps

This past week I’ve been focusing on making pretty things that make me happy.

Whatever I liked I went with…whether it was a paper line, a colour scheme, or my own handwriting.

……………………………………………………………………………….

This card got sent to my best friend in Thunder Bay to celebrate her university graduation with her Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of English Arts. Right?! I am so unbelievably proud of her so I wanted to make her an extra special card.

I used the Maggie Holmes Chasing Dreams collection along with a LOT of layering. Isn’t that book chipboard piece brilliant? And that gold glitter dot acetate?

Honestly, I can’t believe some of my cards fit in envelopes with all of the layers I put on.

Plus, how hilarious are those Star Trek postage stamps??? Perfect for happy mail.

Next…

I’ve also been loving incorporating my own version of mixed media into my scrapbooking lately.

I usually start my layouts as “art journaling” pages and then they morph into scrapbook layouts somehow. I like that though because then I get therapy AND a scrapbook page out of it.

The background is mint acrylic paint, modeling paste + stencil, white heavy body acrylic paint, pink acrylic paint, and turquoise spray ink.

The title I wrote out freehand with my Versamark embossing brush marker, and then heat embossed with Ranger superfine black embossing powder. Fussy cutting the words wasn’t my fave but I love how the title turned out so it was worth the 2 minutes of suffering.

I also added a few diecut shapes from the Crate Paper Oasis collection which went well with the wedding photo of us looking at succulents in the Botanical Conservatory.

Aren’t those little pink dimensional dots lovely? They’re one of the new Nuvo Jewel drops (rose water). They’re tinted, translucent, dimensional, and perfect for cards & layouts.

This layout is on display in the store if you’d like a closer look. Feel free to ask how I did something so you can try it yourself!

Happy Sunday, all!

The Unbreakable Vow

Happy Wednesday, everyone!

Brooke here!

It’s been pretty hectic - craft wise - in my neck of the woods lately with the wedding coming up and everything. I’ve basically only been working on wedding stuff because I’m DIY-ing almost everything…so I have a wedding-themed mini-project to show you today (and a little sneak-peek!).

We knew early on that we were going to write our own vows; we wanted them to be as personal and meaningful as possible.

Rather than pulling out plain old pieces of paper during the ceremony (the horror!), I’ve made little vow booklets that will be pretty and also be a keepsake after the big day.

I started out with an office manila folder which I cut and covered with some paper from an older Crate Paper line. Decorated simply with some chipboard, doilies, and a couple small embellishments, these booklets came together quite quickly.

I am a huge Harry Potter fan so I added a strip of paper cut out of a copy of The Half-Blood Prince from Chapter 15…The Unbreakable Vow on the first page of each of our booklets.

We will hand-write our vows on the pages which are just basic white copy paper.

The hardest part of this mini project was deciding how to bind the books. I wanted something simple, not bulky, and pretty.

It was actually very easy to bind them…I found this simple tutorial on Pinterest and bound them with gray thread.

So there are our vow booklets! Now that I know a simple way to bind little books I want to make all kinds of mini notebooks! Maybe one for my planner!

And here’s a sneak-peek of my DIY bridal bouquet:

Newsflash: working with styrofoam is HARD.

That’s just the base. I’m nearly done and will of course share pictures of all of the wedding DIYs post-wedding!

Have a great day!
