The BIG Project

Yesterday I spent a fantastic day at the stores day crop!  It’s always fun to head out to Winkler, visit & create!

This week I have something entirely different for you!  Let me say that this is a big project and very much outside my comfort zone.  Ok I admit I was totally intimidated, but I did it!

Last year I finally re-did my master bedroom, it hadn’t received any attention since we moved in, it was drab and tired looking.  With the new paint, a new brighter light (the old one was worse than a candle) and new bedding I decided it needed something more.  I was looking for artwork to add over my bed, but couldn’t find anything I liked.

SO….I picked up two 30×24 canvases….and stared at them for the last year scared to tackle the project!  I have never created large pieces, even in high school when my art teacher tried to encourage me to expand and challenge myself.

Last week I finally made myself go for it, it’s just paint right?!  Here are the results of my BIG adventure!

These were definitely an experience of trial and error as I tried different things.  I learned that my favorite paint tool is a regular kitchen sponge!

I added some texture to the paintings but kept it minimal wanting a look like I’ve never created before.

My family was quite surprised with the results…..they said these were ‘plain’ for me!  I agree they are not my normal style, but that was the point of the challenge.

I said to my husband had I filled these up with different embellishments etc it would’ve taken my entire stash at this size.  Yes I just lost the best shopping opportunity! LOL

I had fun creating these abstract pieces and love how they look in my room!  I can’t say I’ll be tackling another project like this anytime soon, but I will defiantly try again…maybe a smaller piece next time!

Oh and yes my 9 is backwards….oops! That’s ok it’s abstract right?!  The numbers aren’t random either, it is my wedding date!

Experimenting with different products and trying new things is something I encourage everyone to try!

Have fun with your art, regardless of your style!

New Classes Announcement!

Hey friends, hi!

I’ve got some news to share with you today!  If you follow Love is in the Details on Facebook or Instagram, then you likely already know that I’ll be heading up to Canada soon, and bringing with me 3 new classes that I’ll be teaching in early July!  The classes will be held over 2 consecutive days so that if you are coming from a distance and want to take in all three, you’ll be able to do so conveniently.  Here is an outline of each of the classes.

Hollyhocks and more!

Cards, gift card holders and a watercolor painting!  In this class we’ll use the hollyhock die from Impression Obsession to create a card and a framed piece of art. We will also do some stamping and coloring to create two gift card holders.  The stamps I’ll be sharing with you are from Jane’s Doodles.  Jane is Croatian; she grew up in Canada, lives now in Croatia and I’m on her design team.  She’s a sweetheart, and a talented artist whose products Lori will so be carrying in the store and you’ll be able to purchase her stamps at 20% off when you sign up for the class!   Finally, I will teach you a partial embossing technique to create another card with die cut flowers and leaves.  Besides the usual finished projects you’ll take home, your class fees will also give you your own die set to keep, as well as a frame for your art!

Summer Fun and Beach Holidays!

The next class is a mini album!  I’ll be showing you a simple but unique way to cut and fold 12″x12″ papers to create a multi-layered and edged album and we will be embellishing it with Elizabeth Craft Designs Peel Off stickers that I will be teaching you how to color and blend.  The colors of the album are bright primary and secondary colors because the theme will be your choice of Summer Fun or Beach Vacation. Perfect colors for those themes, right??  Once again, there will be a ton of product that is yours to keep besides the finished project!

Watercolor Painted Inspiration Book!

This is a class that is inspired by my own recent attending of a class that relit my creative fire and I hope it will do the same for everyone who takes this class!  I’ve altered the project to give it my own style, which I will be sharing with you.  I’ll be demonstrating each of 15 watercolor elements, providing all the tools needed to duplicate the same, (including all the supplies to take home after the class is finished) and encouraging each student to discover their artist within!  This will be a 6 hour class with a break for lunch and at the end you’ll have a handmade journal perfect for inspiring quotes, lists of gratitudes, or whatever you like!  We will make embellishments for the book and learn some basic Zentangle and lettering skills.

I’m really excited to be bringing these classes to the Love is in the Details community and I’m hard at work right now, prepping for July 6 and 7! You can click directly to the class page from hereI hope to see you there!
