Amber’s Picks

Posted by Lori on August 15, 2010

Good Morning everyone!  It’s Creative Team reveal Sunday, and today, it’s Amber’s turn.  Amber is a busy girl this summer working full time (7 days a week) for part of June, July and August looking after her parent’s rental cabins at a lake in Manitoba.  It’s very busy for her, but she still wanted to design something for us all to see.  Let’s see what she picked.  (full product list at end of blog post).

I love that she picked cards - I have such a hard time making cards so I’m anxious to see hers and get some ideas.  In Amber’s gallery you will find a complete list of the products she used under each one of her designs.

Amber and her hubby have a 15th wedding anniversary coming up.  I’m sure this is what this gorgeous card is for.  We are all wondering what he is going to surprise her with as Amber found a few hints she wasn’t supposed to.  I sure hope he lets her know soon, lol, so that we all can find out what it is.

The red on the kraft looks fabulous.

Amber has been busy doing some Tim Holtz distress inking and blending too.  Looks incredible!

I love the how they look when run through the embossing folders.

Amber, you did an amazing job with these cards - I just love them.  I love how you combined many different techniques on these cards, and showed how gorgeous the colors look against the kraft background.  Beautifully done!

Next Sunday, it’s Chelsea’s turn, can’t wait to see what she has created for us to see.

I have noticed alot of you have been talking about organizing scraprooms and scrapbooking supplies.

One thing I :love doing is organizing my scrappy stuff!
I think that when you find a way to organize your stuff that works and feels right for you, it can make scrapbooking easier and more enjoyable. Then you spend time creating, not looking at your supplies.

This week I thought I would share some ways I like to store my ribbons. I love ribbon and I like being able to see them. That way when you need a color you are not digging for it. I do not like my ribbon to be wrinkled, which is what happened when I had it wrapped around bobbin winders and filed in a box. I had seen a product similar to this but decided to make my own.
I used paper bobbin winders.  (Michael’s or Walmart has these near embroidery thread), a slot punch, shower curtain rings (from Walmart).

I used the slot paper punch (from Stampin’ Up) to punch holes at the top and bottom of the bobbin winder, then I slipped my ribbon through the bobbin winders and hooked them (organized by color) onto the shower curtain rings. It also looks great on the wall of your room.

The other way I have some ribbons organized is to store them in buckets (these buckets I picked up at Dollarama).  I store them this way because they do not fit into to the “by color” or rainbow method of organizing. I have three ribbon buckets. They are marked scrap ribbons, themed ribbons, wide ribbons. Scrap ribbons are very small pieces, themed ribbons have a very specific theme that you can’t use for anything else, and wide ribbons are ribbons I would probably use more for wrapping.
I took the buckets and punched holes in them using my Crop-a-Dile punch, made labels on the computer, and attached it to the bucket with a rhinestone brad (gotta have the bling!)

I hope that these ribbon storage and organizing ideas work for you!

See you next Wednesday…..Nola

Lisa’s August picks…..

Posted by Lori on August 8, 2010

Good Morning everyone!  Sunday has arrived, and it’s now time for another LIITD Creative Team reveal, this Sunday it’s Lisa’s turn.  In the picture below, the white background is actually 6 sheets of Bazzill smooth white cardstock.  (full product list at end of blog post).

Now, let’s see what she created with these products.  The pictures you see below of Lisa’s designs (all but the first two pictures of the key holder) are all done with Tim Holtz Distress Inks, blending foams and stamps.  Isn’t it amazing how the smooth white cardstock can be transformed into beautiful patterned paper with this distress ink technique and some stamping.  In Lisa’s gallery you will find a complete list of products she used under each one of her designs.

This key holder is very cool and I think I just might have to make one myself.

It’s tough to make a masculine card, but this one is perfect.

Lisa made this gorgeous door hanger for her daughter’s bedroom door.  I’m loving the 7Gypsies ring dangles on the “Come In/Please Knock” hanging off of the ever so cool Tim Holtz curio knob.

Lisa’s next design is using a 7Gypsies mini album cover which she turned into a beautiful mini album.  Using the Tim Holtz inks and stamps, she totally transformed the smooth white cardstock into the beautiful inside pages of her mini album.

In a few days, in the tips and techniques section of the forum, Lisa will be doing a *technique post* about using distress inks.

This last stunning design is this beautiful frame that Lisa found in her stash.  She loved the quote on one of the stamps in the Tim Holtz Urban Chic stamp set (more coming to LIITD soon) and wanted to use it to put in this frame.  Again, using the distress inks, she made these two beautiful paper layers to complete the frame.

Lisa, this was absolutely a gorgeous reveal - you ROCKED these products, and I LOVE it all.  You creativity with the distress inks is divine!  Bravo!

Don’t forget, LIsa will be showing this Tim Holtz Distress Ink technique in the forum later in the week.

Next Sunday, it’s Amber’s turn, I wonder what she has chosen to work with.
