The spinning lady!

Posted by Lori on December 12, 2008

Well, I know I am supposed to be out there hunting down some really cool Christmas stuff, and I am still searching, but I couldn’t resist showing you - and asking you this today.

Which brain are you?

I’ve never seen this before, and I think it’s really cool.

If you see the lady spinning clockwise then you are right-brained

If you see the lady spinning counter-clockwise then you are left-brained.

I see her spinning clockwise, Paul sees her spinning counter-clockwise. Neither one of us can get the other one to see what we see - so weird. Apparently some people can get her to switch, but we can’t. And apparently, most people see her spinning counter-clockwise.

I can’t wait to hear what you all have to say, and please let us know if you can get her to switch directions!

Actually I see her both ways. I saw her going counter but while I was reading, she switched to clockwise and now she counter again. lol

You caused quite the debate in my house, I see it clockwise. The boys see it counter-clockwise and Mike sees it both ways. Freaky!

Counter clockwise for me!  I know that I have seen this before, and she DID switch for me, but she isn’t tonight. LOL!

  5. Darcy December 12, 2008 8:33 pm

I am ‘right brained’, yes Paul, right brained.

  6. Shannon December 12, 2008 8:42 pm

I saw her clockwise and by the time I was done reading she had turned to couter!  Cool!  I guess I must be full brained as well!

Clock-wise for me, to start.  But I figured out how to get her to switch, check out her shadow, then look up again and she’s going the other way. lol!

  11. Lorna December 12, 2008 10:30 pm

I see her going both ways. Very strange!

  12. Boo December 12, 2008 10:35 pm

Clockwise for me.  Now exactly what does being right-brained mean?

  13. cinnabon December 12, 2008 10:54 pm

I see her spinning clock wise!  So, like Boo said, what does that mean for me??  More creative, right??

  14. Martine December 12, 2008 11:09 pm

I saw her clock-wise at first, then as I was reading and I was seeing the bottom half of her, she started spinning counter clock-wise. She switched a few times, but I see her for the longest periods rotating clock-wise.

  15. Sherry December 12, 2008 11:36 pm

    I see her both ways…

  16. Aleks December 13, 2008 12:30 am

I saw her clockwise at first, and couldn’t figure out how anyone could see her counterclockwise….but if you watch her shadow…it will change to counter clockwise.

  17. janet December 13, 2008 2:39 am

    I see her turning clockwise

  18. Angele December 13, 2008 7:26 am

Dear Father Lori!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can see her spinning both ways! Does this mean that my brain is working hard on both sides or not at all,is my microwave leaking radiation? I seriously have brain damage!

  20. Shanna December 13, 2008 11:22 am

I only see counter clockwise!!  Mind you, I am surprised I can see at all this morning…

  21. scrapbugger December 13, 2008 11:23 am

Like Dari said, if I look at the shadow I can switch my brain to see her the other way…  I had seen this before and only could see her going clockwise that time….guess my brain’s working better now-tee hee.

  22. Peggy December 13, 2008 12:25 pm

clockwise at first for both myself and dh. But we can see her spinning both ways.
    This is cool.

  23. Peggy December 13, 2008 12:39 pm

A ha. I figured it out. I tested it on my kids, then they said “hey, she just switched”
    She spins both ways!!!!
When she spins counter clockwise, her left leg is forward and her left arm is back.
When she spins clockwise, her right leg is forward and her right arm is back.

when I very first saw it she was going clockwise then she swiched to counter clockwise and has stayed that way.

  25. LoriW December 13, 2008 7:13 pm

Clockwise at first but I can get her to switch. Bob and Nik were both counter clockwise but they can also get her to switch.

  26. Laura December 13, 2008 9:21 pm

when I first look at her she is going counterclockwise and then she changes to clockwise.

  27. Wanda December 14, 2008 1:58 pm

I can see her going both ways.  Cool!

  28. Tee December 15, 2008 6:20 pm

I think I am a left-brained person, but I see her spinning clockwise. I really have to think about it to see her spinning counter-clockwise. :)

  29. cindy December 16, 2008 7:59 am

very cool …. i can see her spinning both ways as well.

took me about 30 seconds to get the change in direction going.
had a closer look at it and worked out how it works.
    its a matter of perspective.
the image is not 3D and because it is black you cannot tell wether you are
looking at the front or the or the back of the girl, except when she is side on and
when she is side on you cannot tell wether you are looking at her left side or her right side.
so depending on which perspective your brain takes she will spin one way or the other.
change your perspective and you change the direction.
with a bit of practice you can change her direction every half rotation.
