Christmas Ideas!

Posted by Lori on December 10, 2008

This year, I am stumped, I just don’t want to put the same things in everyone’s stocking. I want to find something that is really different. Is that possible, or will I find myself going back to the same things?

I’m curious, what do you put in everyone’s stocking? What little bits of goodness do you hide inside? Please share your ideas in your comments, I really would like to know what you are finding.

What does your stocking look like? Ours are huge, my MIL knit us each one, and yes, even one for “Zero!” I have been searching around the internet for some different holiday ideas and I found these - I think they are the coolest stockings - bright and funky - kinda scrapbooker like!

I love advent calendars, and I still love to put mine up. Mine is in the shape of a Christmas tree - filled with 24 pockets - and it has a little mouse that you move along each day - no treats - just the excitement that Christmas is fast approaching. I think I got it from Avon quite a few years ago. While I was searching for stocking stuffers, I came across a very unique idea for an advent calendar. I think this is the cutest thing - if I could knit - I would have to make one of these! Wouldn’t it be fun to fill each little mitten or hat with a little wrapped surprise. How cute would this be?

Wouldn’t this look so adorable hanging from the Christmas tree? Super cute!

I do think that we have some “little stocking stuffers” hidden here at the store - I think we will have a couple of weeks of holiday fun here on the LIITD blog!

Every time you comment, we’ll put your name in our little “Stocking Stuffer draw.”

I find the kids are always easy to find cute little stuff for their stockings, but of course they always get the manditory socks!! LOL  For Mike’s, well that’s a hard one, but I have a few things so far, travel mug, deoderant, gloves, chocolates…..hmm not too original is it!

My Mom made us all our stockings and stitched our names on the top, they’re so special to me!

You know I came here to check if there was a sneaky-peeky of the Jan kit, right? ;)

But those mittens are too cute! I definitely don’t know how to knit. I can’t even cast-on evenly. LOL.

DH has a handcrafted (not knitted) stocking that his mom made him. It’s got sequins and felt and everything. Luckily it’s too small to fit a lot of things in :D plus we don’t really exchange gifts, I think I put in a CF card, a CF card reader, drill bits, and a small screwdriver set in last year. YAWN! LOL.

When the kids were younger I always put a new christmas tree decoration in their stocking.  When they move out they will have a set of decorations of their own that they will remember from when they were younger.

Found your site while shopping online for my wife’s Christmas gift. I recently found these candles online http://www.harmonygrovecandles.com . I bought my wife Brandied Pear, Cozy Home, Harmony Grove and Very Vanilla. My wife loves candles and we try them all, at least it seems like it! These are by far the best I have tried over the past few years. The scent filled up our entire first floor! They are really inexpensive, which is the best thing. Thanks for all your ideas, hopefully my wife will like whatever I pick!

I love those stockings! I don’t know that I found the greatest stocking stuffers this year. I was pretty pleased with the craft kits I got the kids.Just a simple craft, easy to make.

Those stockings are cute!! I think the bird is cute too. As for stocking stuffers, for steve I put some tools that he needs, deoderant, after shave etc… some little sugarless candies. For my boys, it’s chocolates, lipsyl, hmmm what else…. I usually go to the dollar store and find a whole bunch of little things they can use.

I have no original ideas for stocking stuffers.
My dogs have stockings too, and I do love those bright ones!!

    I love the advent mittens  ; )

In the kids stockings there has to be a christmas orange, and some Christmas goodies and a few little toys, and they always get a colouring book and now that the two are older drawing pads

We didn’t do Christmas stockings in my family growing up… and I still don’t now. So I’m of no help here! ;-)  But I do love those funky stockings! and the little mitts are too cute!

These are adorable!!! The boys usually get chocolate, a few little toys and office supplies - like funky pens. (remember where my DH works!LOL!)

I would give things like those tiny bottles of booze, lotto scratch tickets, $5 or $10 gift cards desktop calendars, fridge magnets, gum/candies, travel-sized lotions.

In the past I’ve put socks, toothbrushes, oranges, hair ties, little cars, soap and little things like that.  I haven’t been doing it lately though.

I love the photos you posted.  I like the little mitten advent calendar.  So cute!

  16. Angele December 11, 2008 7:39 am

The little advent mittens are the cutest!!!  I put what everyone already mentioned into the stocking, plus Toblerone bars, windshield scrapers, boxers, CDR’s for the kids because they can’t use enough of those… Cute ideas Lori!

Those stockings are adorable!  I was just thinking that I need to make new ones this year especially for the girls!  I may just have to attempt ones just like those!  As for what I put in the stocking, last year I discovered dollarama is a great place to go!  I also like finding stuff at princess auto and canadian tire for my DH.

The stockings and advent calendar are sooo cute!  I saw a similar advent calendar, but it was made with kids’ tiny little socks.  DS is getting some colouring stuff, puzzles, and books in his stocking and maybe a new pair of PJs.  DH is getting mostly candy that I normally don’t buy and maybe a movie or two.  He totally doesn’t get the new toothbrush and underwear in your stocking thing which is the kind of stuff we got when we were kids.

  19. Peggy December 11, 2008 5:27 pm

I like the stockings. they are funky.
Our advent calender doesn’t have treats either. Each pocket is filled with a fabric ornament. Each day one ornament is hung on one of the round buttons on our tree shaped advent calender.

LOVE the Advent stocking!  I was thinking that instead of a stocking this year I would get dss some kind of fold out thing with gift cards in it, but small ones, like $5 from Tim Hortons, $20 gas, Song site, etc.

  21. Bonnie December 12, 2008 10:44 am

Some great Christmas inspiration here, Lori!  I love the mittens advent calendar - too cute.
In dh’s sock are always his favorite chocolates, a christmas orange, scratch lotto tix,  a new movie, and last year I put some good quality facial products, a cleanser, shave cream, aftershave and razor burn product that he loved so I’ll probably do that again.  Sorry, no exciting ideas here….

  22. Chelsea December 12, 2008 11:23 am

Usually for the kids they’ll get some chocolates, a coloring book and crayons, some hair stuff (the girls of course!), socks, little toys, and always an orange. :)

  23. Vernette December 12, 2008 11:44 am

I love the string of mittens! I think I will ask my SIL if she can make me one.
The felt bird is way too sute. Looks fairly simple to make. Will have to try it. If it works its your Lori!

  24. Miranda December 12, 2008 11:51 am

Stockings are fairly easy for me. However, I find that they are a lot more expensive then they used to be. I love getting all the little things put together and individually wrapped.

Love the ideas you have posted - I SO wish I had more time to do all the projects that provide so much inspiration.

  25. Lorna December 12, 2008 12:08 pm

Love those little mitts! For stocking stuffers I usually put in oranges, chocolates, for DD some little goodies from Avon, and this year I am going with gift cards (Starbucks, Gas card, Chapters and the Keg) and scratch tickets! None of them are youngsters so they are all happy with gc’s!

  26. Laura December 13, 2008 9:24 pm

stocking stuffers at our house vary according to who they are for. The boys all get a jolly rancher story book, I will maybe put in a movie, slippers, cologne, beanies (hats), boxers, books, hotwheels, an orange, small lego kits.
