Make a Wish

I hate to say it but once again it seems summer has passed by too quickly.   Soon enough the kids will be back to school.  All we can hope is the warm temps stick around much longer!

A special friend at work celebrated her birthday this weekend.  I wanted to give her a little something pretty for her desk at work, so I made this little 4×4 magnet back canvas.  She loves dragonflies, and gears…so of course I had to find a way to merge the two!

img_2372-950x876All of the background gears and the heart are Love Is In The Details custom laser cut chipboard….I can’t seem to keep gears in stock as I use them all the time!

The background is coloured with black gesso and Finnabair Metallique in Emerald Green.  Then I highlighted the gears with Finnabair Wax in Rose Gold.

The heart I coloured with black embossing powder and backed it with some rose gold metalic cardstock.  The cardstock was too shiney so I scratched it up with my sanding block and put some black gesso overtop to get into the scratch marks.

The dragonfly went through a few phases of colour which resulted in a fun texture.  The last coat I used Finnabair Metallique Rose Gold paint, though the gold mostly shows.  I layered onto the body a fancy clock hand and some gems.  I think the end result is a bit of an old gaudy gold pin, but I love the effect!

For some extra shine which goes well with my friends love for shiney jewlery, I added some Finnabair Micro Beads, and Tim Holtz Distress Glitter.

The end result is she loves her little canvas and can’t wait to come back from holidays to enjoy seeing it at her desk! :)

I have more of these little magnet canvases, think I’ll have to make one for myself next!

Hope you enjoy your weekend and it’s not spent entirely back to school shopping.  Take some time for YOU and get in your creative space!

Traveling Dandy

Welcome to another Sunday, grab some coffee while you enjoy my post!

Do you all remember my Mad Scientist….well this little canvas which I’ve named the Traveling Dandy is the second in this series of canvases feature Tim Holtz stamps!

I clearly read a lot of historical fiction, and I just love the term ‘dandy’ so I couldn’t resist calling this smartly dressed man a ‘dandy’! LOL

He’s on his first trip to New York, excited to see the sites, but his train is late!  Ok yes sometimes I like to make  up stories for my work!

I chose to keep the background the same colours I used on the Mad Scientist canvas, making this a bit of a series.  Oh yes there will be a couple more!

I used Tim Holtz Mini Glob & Cityscape Skyline dies, which again I covered with Seth Apter Baked Texture  &  Baked Velvet embossing powders!  The Cityscape Skyline dies were covered with Deep Sea Baked Texture, while the globe was covered with Lime Baked Velvet, with a bit of Ancient Amber sprinkled on.

Once again I used Distress Inks to water colour this dandy fellow!!!  On the background I also used a Tim Holtz stencil and some of his Grit Paste to make it look like the sun was setting over the city skyline!

While you’re enjoying this traveler, I’ll be doing some traveling of my own!

Thank you for joining me again today!  I’ll see you in a couple weeks!

p.s. this was another unfinished project…two down more to go!
