It all started with a stamp….

Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads out there!

In honor of Father’s Day I was inspired to create a masculine mixed media canvas.  My Dad always supported my creativity, he encouraged me to create…he was one of my biggest supporters and I know he’d love to see everything I make if he were still here.

Lori brought in a new stamp company Carabelle Studio and wow the stamps are gorgeous!  When I saw the Mecanique Steampunk XXL stamp I had to have it.  Currently this stamp is all sold out but just let Lori know if you would like one.

Of course I couldn’t wait to test out the stamp so it was the first thing I pulled out of my stash with no idea what I was actually going to create.  With the stamp sitting on my table I dug through my canvas stash and pulled out a 6×12 canvas, the size was perfect to go with this large stamp.

Using Black Archival Ink I stamped onto a piece of paper cut to the size of my canvas, then added the paper to the canvas.  I still didn’t know where this was leading.  Ok throughout the project I didn’t have an image of what I wanted to create I just went with it.

I also used one of the new Carabelle Studio stencils Tame Tisses et Chiffres with Ranger Texture Paste to add texture in random spots on the canvas.  Then I sprayed the background using various colors of Tim Holtz Distress Spray Stain, including Hickory Smoke.

Lori also just got in the Tim Holtz Distress Crayons……yes I love all things distress but these are so creamy & awesome!  I used a few of the colors to add some extra color to or highlighting to the canvas by just coloring & smudging with my fingers.  Extra texture was added by mixing Finnabair Art Stones, Mica Powder in Gold and 3D Gloss Gel.

Some Prima metal embellishments and Tim Holtz Wildflowers die finished it off.  The ‘photo’ is not a relative, it’s actually a tin type image I found in my stash, but he is quite dashing.

This canvas certainly took on a life of it’s own starting with a simple stamp.  It’s been a long time since I created a mixed media canvas and I had a lot of fun!

If there are any products you see that are currently sold out remember just ask Lori and she’ll do her best to get them in for you.

Thank you once again for letting me share some creativity with you!
