Fall Home Decor

Posted by Lisa on September 21, 2014

It’s that time of year, the kids are all back to school and the leaves are changing into their beautiful fall colors!

Do you decorate your home for fall or halloween?  I normally decorate my house but with renos still ongoing I have no space for my decorations…and I’m not actually sure where they are at the moment. LOL

It just doesn’t feel right not having any decorations up so I decided I could find a spot for one simple wall hanging so I got busy creating!

The base of my project is a wood plaque I found at the dollar store, always the right price for altered projects!

First I painted the plaque black then adhered some paper onto the front.  Once the glue on the paper was dry I sanded and tore the edges a bit before inking them to give it a distressed finish.

I dug through my large stash of Tim Holtz dies first cutting the Arch Frames, then the Iron Gate and Cobwebs.  I wasn’t sure how I was going to piece these together…just started cutting!  I pulled out one of the Tim Holtz Found Relatives cards and cut out these small children.

The Arch Frames were cut out of plain chipboard, which I painted using Walnut Stain Distress Paint first, then stamped with a crackle die.  To finish them off and give them more of a distressed look I coated them with Ranger Crackle Accents.

I added spider webs from the Tim Holtz Cobwebs decorative strip die to two of the arches and finished the other with just plain black cardstock since it was mostly covered by the children image.

I didn’t have any small pumpin dies so I created my own by cutting 6 oval shapes, 3 small and 3 large which I layered to create the pumpkins.

On the opposite side of the pumpkins I added a Pinwheel using the Tim Holtz Mini Paper Rosettes die, which was finished off with a fun skull embellishment.

Of course it wouldn’t be finished without a couple of bats which were cut from the Tim Holtz Halloween Shadows die!

With it all put together I think those children look a little haunted…not sure I want to live in their house!!

Thanks for stopping by today, I hope this inspires you to create some fall or halloween decor for your house!!
