Creative Sunday ~~ Norine

Hi everyone, Norine back again with a cool thing. Have y’all seen the Daybooks by Amy Tangerine-American Crafts?

Pretty fun right? But this is one of those times where “I can make that myself” And I did. And so can you!

It’s a fun little mini album/journal/notebook you can make, and it uses up lots of the pieces of bigger-ish paper scraps you’ve kept. The more random the paper patterns the funner they can be. I did one quite random but I had all these paper scraps out and some how, a color scheme pile formed and I had to make another one that was co-ordinated. Both are pretty cute. (I think.)

First, a selection of papers. I used these as a base then looked through my scrap drawer and added more from there that also co-ordinated with these. I even included a transparency sheet for the front just like the “real” Amy Tan’s!

Then I cut them into random sizes and even some shapes…banners, scalloped edged, and so on. Next I laid them out to determine the order of the pages so that they would show complimentary colors and designs next to each other.

Then it was time to put them together and bind them.

My bright colored book, I ran through the sewing machine and it worked ok. I had to help the needle pierce all the paper at the thickest points in the middle, but it did stitch up fine.

For the coordinated book, because I had a couple more pages than the last, I decided to try a different tack, and hand bind it with a paper piercer, and a thick blunt needle and crewel/embroidery thread.

You can see the stitching here.

I’m not sure yet, what event/occasion I’ll use each of these books for….I’m leaning to a travel one for our recent trip to Washington…but I’ll be back to show you one of them when I get it finished!
