Creative Sunday ~~ Lori

Posted by Lori on September 4, 2011

Are you enjoying the long weekend?  Have you been having good weather?  I’ve been enjoying the weekend, but the weather has not been so nice - cold, dreary and rainy.  But, it’s still a long weekend and I’ll take it.

Halloween and Christmas are coming and one of my most favorite things to do at the store is to change the decorations to the season/holiday.  I do have my favorite things that I put out for every occasion, but I always like to add a few new items.  I also want to try and make the decorations out of as many scrappy goodies as I can.

I like putting some dried branches and flowers, etc. in the store for the fall/Halloween display, but I didn’t really have anything perfect to put them in.  I didn’t want anything too big, I wanted something the size of a regular vase.

You know - these vases - I am sure you will have some - and if not, I know that you will find them in the thrift stores.

I got out my alcohol inks - wow, haven’t had them out in a long long time.  I put the felt on the handle and squirted a bit of alcohol ink onto the felt.

Then I just started applying it on the vase.  I blended downward and then started at the top again.

This was after one coat, I decided I wanted the color more intense, so with the blue vase, I did 3 coats.

Then I did the green one, and again, this was the start of the first of 3 coats.

And this was the first of one coat of the purple.  Because of the design on the glass, this vase only needed one coat to get the vase the deep color I wanted it.

And there you have them, ready for the display.  They really do look awesome, and I took this above picture,

and this picture, but I still did not capture how intense the colors really are.  I think they will look fabulous in the store with some dried arrangements.

Honestly, this project took me less than an hour to do - start to finish - the worst part was cleaning up my hands (which I advise, if you are messy like me - put on some gloves - much easier clean up).

Oh, and I must mention - our Back to School Sale - I have extended it till Tuesday night - there might be some who are away for the long weekend and won’t have time to shop till they get back.

That is very cool, and a great way to make some inexspensive decorations.  I love how rich the colours are.  I have never used alcohol inks but what a great way to show how you can use them in different ways !!!

Lori, I love love love these…I’ve looked at them several times on here and fb!  I would love to see more examples with alcohol inks… I think I’ve just decided I’m not fussy… so I don’t like to try a lot of new things!
